ABOUT PROGRAM

The Department of Mechanical Engineering was established in the year 2009 and offered B.E program in Mechanical Engineering with an intake of 60 seats. At present, the department currently offers intake of 120 seats. Our Department is committed to impart quality education to students with up-to-date curriculum and also indulge with industry requirements while fostering research and entrepreneurship spirit among students. The department has well-qualified and experienced faculty members with a good blend of teaching, research and industrial experience. The faculty members are committed to impart quality education to students through effective teaching learning process. The department has state of the art facilities for various laboratories, classrooms to support e-learning in addition to a department library. We strive to bring out the academic and personal excellence in students, encouraging them in all extra-curricular activities.

PROGRAM EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES (PEOS)

PEO:1 Acquire basic knowledge of Mechanical Engineering to analyse and solve real world problems in Mechanical Engineering domain.

PEO:2 Identify, analyse and solve complex problems and design issues in Mechanical Engineering.

PEO:3 Practice ethical responsibilities and service towards their peers, employers, society and follow these principles in their daily life.

PROGRAMME OUTCOMES (POS)

PO1. Engineering Knowledge : Apply the knowledge of mathematics, science, engineering fundamentals, and an engineering specialization to the solution of complex engineering problems.

PO2. Problem analysis :Identify, formulate, review research literature, and analyze complex engineering problems reaching substantiated conclusions using first principles of mathematics, natural sciences, and engineering sciences.

PO3. Design/development of solutions: Design solutions for complex engineering problems and design system components or processes that meet the specified needs with appropriate consideration for the public health and safety, and the cultural, societal, and environmental considerations.

PO4. Conduct Investigations of Complex Problems :Use research-based knowledge and research methods including design of experiments, analysis and interpretation of data, and synthesis of the information to provide valid conclusions.

PO5. Modern Tool Usage: Create, select, and apply appropriate techniques, resources, and modern engineering and IT tools including prediction and modeling to complex engineering activities with an understanding of the limitations.

PO6. The Engineer and Society: Apply reasoning informed by the contextual knowledge to assess societal, health, safety, legal and cultural issues and the consequent responsibilities relevant to the professional engineering practice.

PO7. Environment and Sustainability :Understand the impact of the professional engineering solutions in societal and environmental contexts, and demonstrate the knowledge of, and need for sustainable development.

PO8. Ethics: Apply ethical principles and commit to professional ethics and responsibilities and norms of the engineering practice.

PO9. Individual and Team Work: Function effectively as an individual, and as a member or leader in diverse teams, and in multidisciplinary settings.

PO10. Communication:Communicate effectively on complex engineering activities with the engineering community and with society at large, such as, being able to comprehend and write effective reports and design documentation, make effective presentations, and give and receive clear instructions.

PO11. Project Management and Finance: Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the engineering and management principles and apply these to one’s own work, as a member and leader in a team, to manage projects and in multidisciplinary environments.

PO12. Life-long learning: : Recognize the need for, and have the preparation and ability to engage in independent and life-long learning in the broadest context of technological change.

PROGRAMME SPECIFIC OUTCOMES (PSOS)

PSO1: Graduates of the program will achieve excellence in product design, thermal engineering and manufacturing system by acquiring knowledge in mathematics, science and design principles.

PSO2: Graduates will be able to analyse, interpret and provide solutions to real time mechanical engineering problems.

HOD DESK

Welcome to the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Dhanalakshmi Srinivasan College of Engineering, Coimbatore. We started our journey in the year of 2009. The primary focus of our curriculum is to impart technical know-how to students, promote their problem-solving skills and innovation of new technologies. The students are encouraged to undertake various curricular and extra-curricular activities. Mechanical engineering is one of the most comprehensive professional disciplines. Mechanical engineering principles are employed in a wide range of industries such as power generation, manufacturing, energy, repair and maintenance, automation and control, robotics, electronics, nanotechnology, food industries, automotive, petroleum, aerospace, etc. Our primary importance is to motivate, inspire, build trust and confidence in students. We have state of the art laboratory facilities in the constitution with our academic programs. Faculty members have good academic credentials and are highly regarded. Our department looks forward to contributing to solving the technological challenges of the society with active participation from all sections of the society. Thank you for visiting us.
